Schild & Vriend

'Schild en Vriend' is an old Flemish battlecry, used in the rebellion of the city of Brugge against the French, May 18, 1302. Legend tells that it was used to differentiate between the French-speaking (who could not pronounce 'schild') and Flemish-speaking citizens. Nowadays, historians tell us that it was probably 'Des Gilden Vriend'.

Full Thrust Narrative Campaign
The Human - Xirin wars

It is september 2311. In the Kolani system, a second degree jump point nexus in the Outer Rim, pirate forces of unknown origin attack and destroy a Xirin ore convoy using the system as a waypoint in its' journey back from one of their mining systems. A storm of protest rises among the Xirin people, who - justly or not remains unclear - suspect UP High Command of secretly having engineered this vicious attack. UP immediately denies any involvement and swears to innocence. The Xirin popular opinion is not so easily turned however, and anti-Human feelings among the Xirins grow increasingly strong, souring the already strained relations between the two races considerably. Many people fear that the Kolani Incident, as it quickly became known, might become the spark to set of the powder keg, dragging the two races in an intergalactic war...

Full Thrust is a simple and elegant set of rules for space combat games between fleets of starships. The ruleset is very popular in our group because of the subject, and the fact that it satisfies the "triple-F" requirement: it's fast, furious and fun.

As with many of our games we try to give our Full Thrust games an extra dimension by linking the scenarios we play into a 'narrative campaign', which is simply an overall background with recurring ships, characters etc. providing a continuing, ever expanding storyline which is influenced by the scenarios played.

This page is dedicated to our current Full Thrust narrative campaign on the war between the Humans and an avian alien race called the Xirin (what's in a name?). This campaign takes place some time after the humans and Xirin joined forces as the Galactic Empire, to defeat the invasion of a third alien race, the Gorn. It is in this war that our favourite family, in the form of Admiral Sigisbiduwald von Trappstein-Hohenschlieffen, rose to prominence yet again. It is now a few decades later, and as both races' influence spheres start to expand and contact along the edges, relations between Human and Xirin have cooled markedly, to the point of imminent war...
